Curriculum development, instructional strategies and techniques for teaching elementary social studies with emphasis on primary research skills. Includes preparation of materials, assessment and micro-teaching.

Teaching Middle & Secondary Social Studies  
Application of teaching methods to social studies in middle and high schools. Field experience required.

Teaching in the Middle School  
Foundations, methods, and strategies for teaching at the middle school level. Lab required. Field experience required. 

Student Teaching Supervision & Seminar  
Individual and group supervision for high school social studies student teachers.

Literacy in the Content Areas 
Exploration of literacy practices as the infrastructure for constructing knowledge in the secondary school disciplines. 

Education in the Americas: Critical Inquiry & Philosophy of Education 
Study abroad program in Peru focused on the philosophical underpinnings of educational approaches, as well as the social context that shapes educational practice.

Educational Inquiry II: Advocating for Justice & Equity in K12 Schools 
Advanced foundations course exploring critical policy issues in US education and the role of citizens and teachers as advocates.

Philosophy of Education 
Exploration of key philosophical concepts in education and how they are connected to teaching & learning.

GRADUATE COURSES

Doctoral Seminar in Social Contexts & Educational Policy
Examines significant historical and sociological texts pertinent to understanding matters of race and education.
